Last week we said: “…the court appointed administrators overseeing liquidation of the company have had enough. They recently told the buyers to close the deal and produce the rest of the money by the end of August or consider the deal undone.” You may recall that the buyers were apparently having trouble raising the funds or were at least dragging their feet.
But a within a week the deal appears to have been done with money suddenly appearing and changing hands. NEVS recently said it has been working on both technology and manufacturing requirements and plans to introduce an electric car, possibly based on the previous 9-3 model, within 18 months. The car will be targeted at the Chinese domestic market although it may later be exported to certain other markets as well.
One twist in the final deal: the new owners will get the right to use the SAAB name (probably as SAAB Automobiles), but not the famous griffin head logo. The mythical beast will still be used by SAAB Scania trucks and SAAB Aerospace, both separate companies unaffected by the sale.
