Coolant: no longer a one size fits all world

By Jim Taylor, Editor MACS ACtion Magazine

Meet the teacher
Continuing our series of blogs introducing some of the teachers and presenters that will be presenting classes at the upcoming MACS Training Event and Trade Show in February. Each of these class leaders has been chosen for their detailed knowledge of their topic and their ability to present it to you.

Tom Fritsche, Beck/Arnley Worldparts
“Application-specific coolants”

Tom is the director of product management at Beck/Arnley Worldparts, a specialty supplier of quality import parts for cars, light trucks and SUVs. He is a whiz at getting the correct product for the correct application, and this class will see to it that you have the knowledge  to get the proper fluid into almost any cooling system.

Tom says, “It is no longer a ‘one size fits all’ world, particularly with anti-freeze/coolant products for your foreign nameplate vehicles.  All of the manufacturers are telling their owners and service personnel that they need to use the proper coolant to avoid problems.  If you look in an owner’s manual it states to use that manufacturers coolant—that recommendation is not made to sell parts, but to ensure the use of the coolant specifically formulated for that vehicle’s cooling system. Not using the proper coolant can shorten the life of components.
